No doubt we all want clean, environmentally friendly products in our homes & businesses.  My husband has CoPD. This affects his lungs. So chemical-free products is a must. Needing a new floor for our old country home was a much needed project to invest in. I web-searched just about all the flooring companies on the market, driving distance from me, I really like to see before I buy. I purchasing samples. All had this chemical smell and I knew there had to be some company in the USA that had low  / no chemical flooring. Amazing, I googled chem-free wood flooring and this company (Cali Bamboo) popped up. Reviewing the site, I found products that offered "Formaldehyde Free" flooring (Bamboo), yaaa, I love Bamboo! Being so far away, I live in Oklahoma and the company is in California I did more research, even BBB. After feeling comfortable with the information I contacted this company to receive some samples. Unbelievable, Cali Bamboo mailed me several samples at no cost. After receiving my samples I did a stiff test and was amazed that I didn't smell a strong chemical odor. Ordered a 1000 sq. ft to do the house with the exception of the kitchen and bathroom. Working on that Project right now! You wonder about the cost? Yes, it is a little higher than some of the other wood flooring companies, however, it has a great warranty, great customer service and it's bamboo flooring is chemical "Formaldehyde" free. Worth the extra pennies. A recent extensive testing performed by the world’s preeminent emissions detection laboratory Benchmark International, shows several floors registering standardized concentration levels as “Not Detectable” with less than 0.000 PPM (parts per million). The floors with detectable levels were still 50 times lower than the strictest California Air Resources Board (CARB) Phase 2 standards 0.05 PPM. In fact, Cali Bamboo floors scored even lower than the typical air we breathe 0.02 PPM.

What is formaldehyde? Formaldehyde can be a naturally occurring chemical in lower concentrations but is often used for embalming, or as a bonding agent or solvent. Formaldehyde is classified as a volatile organic compound (VOC). VOC's are chemicals that become a gas at room temperature. As a result, products made with formaldehyde will release the gas into the air. This is called off-gassing. If high concentrations of formaldehyde are off-gassed and breathed in, it could cause health problems. What contains formaldehyde? Formaldehyde is in just about everything. Apples, shampoo and the air we breathe contains trace formaldehyde. Higher levels of formaldehyde can be found in certain building materials such as particle board, plywood, paneling, pressed-wood and laminated wood building materials including furniture and flooring. What can be done? Awareness is the best defense. Do your research and get the formaldehyde emissions test results before you put any laminated wood building products in your home. Only use "interior-grade" pressed wood products (lower-emitting because they contain phenol resins, not urea resins). Use air conditioning and dehumidifiers to maintain moderate temperature and increase ventilation, particularly after bringing new sources of formaldehyde into the home.
